Can I afford a new payment? Runway calculator
See what remains after essentials, your reserve target, and the proposed payment in both an ordinary month and a lean-income month.
What the calculator actually measures
It subtracts entered essentials, reserve, and payment from ordinary take-home income, then repeats the calculation after reducing income by your chosen stress percentage. It does not declare one payment-to-income percentage universally safe.
Shows whether the proposed payment depends on income staying near the ordinary-month amount.
A payment can pass the ordinary month and fail the lean month
With $4,000 take-home income, $2,800 of essentials, a $300 reserve, and a $400 payment, the ordinary remainder is $500. If income falls 20 percent, the same commitments produce a negative $300 remainder.
$3,200 lean income- $3,500 commitments= -$300 remaining
Costs the result cannot infer
Add fees, insurance, taxes, variable rates, balloon payments, repairs, benefit changes, and irregular essentials when they apply. The calculator cannot know contract terms or whether a cost was omitted.
If the result depends on borrowing again, skipping essentials, or risking collateral you cannot lose, compare a smaller obligation or the safer loan-alternatives pathway.
Questions about the payment runway
What belongs in essential monthly costs?
Include housing, utilities, food, transport, insurance, minimum debt payments, required care and other obligations you cannot pause. Convert irregular essentials to a monthly amount when practical.
Does a positive result mean the payment is affordable?
No. It only means the entered income exceeded the entered costs in that scenario. Recheck omitted fees, variable rates, taxes, repairs and other costs, then compare a leaner income month.
Does the calculator store my amounts?
No. The calculation runs in your browser. ANYWAY.you does not transmit the amounts or use them to match you with a lender or provider.
